Music

After ordering a 160gb IPod off of Full Tilt Poker with my Full Tilt points, I've been looking to pick up some new music to give a listen to after getting tired of my current collection (which mostly consisted of rap, r&b, and VERY mainstream rock).

So I asked a friend to turn me onto a few bands, and he gave me the following list:

- Pink Floyd
- The Cardigans
- Black Sabbath
- Nirvana
- some other band I can't remember at the moment

Ended up loving two of those bands: The Cardigans and Nirvana. One of those bands, Nirvana, turned me onto Pearl Jam, who's music I also really like. And so began my love affair with oldish, not-as-mainstream rock.

I look forward to discovering new bands that I'm sure you've heard of, but I haven't. Now I won't give you one of those lame, here's-what's-on-my-IPod posts, but I will probably bring up some bands I enjoy listening to in the near future.

PS - the following links have been my favorite tracks thusfar through my musical "journey":

I meant to comment on this a long time ago…

First of all, you’ll need some Junkbutton… Check out the songs they have on myspace.com/junkbutton, and if you like it, email me your address (gutterrock@gmail.com) and I’ll send you a copy of all their stuff. I have no recording of it, but they do a killer cover of Nirvana’s song, Breed… Maybe you’ll find something else by them that you find interesting.

A band that’s been around a while that I’m just getting into this year is the White Stripes. And from them, I’ve discovered Jack White’s other band, the Raconteurs. I’m loving their new album “Consolers of the Lonely” right now.

Other bands that I can’t get enough of right now:

Buckcherry
Arcade Fire
Blue October
Kings of Leon
Okkervil River
Social Distortion
Violent Femmes

These bands have all been around for a while. What I like to do is look up bands on iTunes and just see what their popular songs sound like, and expand from there if I like what I hear…

Hopefully something here is interesting to you. Goodluck on your search. Be sure to share who you “discover”… I love finding new bands too…
